SEFS Launches EcoSure Family Cover to Expand Access to Affordable Family Protection
Maseru, 25th August 2026 – Sasai Econet Financial Services (SEFS) has today launched the new EcoSure Family Cover, an enhanced funeral insurance solution designed to make it easier and more affordable for Basotho families to protect their loved ones under a single policy.
The new offering marks the evolution of EcoSure Re-Bolokehile, introducing a simplified family-based structure that allows policyholders to cover themselves, their spouse and up to five children under one monthly premium, with cover options ranging from M10,000 to M50,000. Customers may also add extended family members, including parents, parents-in-law, grandchildren and grandparents, at an additional premium.
Family packages start from just M30 per month, with four options available: EcoSure Lite at M30 for M10,000 cover; EcoSure Basic at M58 for M20,000; EcoSure Standard at M84 for M30,000; and EcoSure Premium at M140 for M50,000 cover.
Speaking at the launch, SEFS General Manager, Mr Moeketsi Mafereka, said the introduction of EcoSure Family Cover reflects SEFS’s commitment to developing relevant financial solutions that respond to the everyday realities of Basotho families.
“For many families, preparing financially for the loss of a loved one can be difficult, particularly when each family member has to be insured separately. With EcoSure Family Cover, we are simplifying that experience by giving families an affordable way to protect several loved ones under one premium. It is about making financial protection easier to understand, easier to access and more inclusive.”
The launch also demonstrates the strength of collaboration between SEFS and its sister company, Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL). EcoSure is digitally accessible to ETL subscribers through their existing ETL SIM cards, allowing customers to access the service through *188# and pay premiums conveniently using EcoCash or airtime.
Importantly, ETL’s expanded network footprint provides the connectivity foundation through which SEFS can take digital financial services beyond traditional service points and closer to communities across Lesotho. By leveraging this reach, SEFS is able to advance financial inclusion by giving more Basotho convenient access to insurance and other financial services through a device already in their hands.
“As ETL continues to expand the reach of its network, that connectivity creates opportunities for us to extend simple affordable and accessible financial services to more Basotho, including communities where accessing traditional financial services may not always be convenient. EcoSure Family Cover is another step towards ensuring that financial protection is within reach of more families.”
Beyond affordability, the enhanced EcoSure proposition introduces several customer-focused improvements. The policy provides a 90-day grace period, a six-month waiting period for death by natural causes for qualifying insured persons, and a maximum cover of M50,000 per insured life.
The product also includes accidental death benefits, while customers have the flexibility to manage their policies and dependents and make premium payments digitally. The revised offering is intended to simplify the policy structure, improve customer satisfaction and strengthen the accessibility and competitiveness of EcoSure.
Existing EcoSure customers also have the option to migrate from individual cover to the new Family Cover, subject to eligibility and settlement of any outstanding premiums. Migration can be initiated digitally or with assistance at an Econet Shop.
Mr. Mafereka said the broader ambition is to ensure that insurance increasingly becomes an accessible part of everyday financial planning for Basotho.
“Financial inclusion is not only about giving people a way to transact; it is also about enabling them to protect themselves and the people who depend on them. Through EcoSure Family Cover, we want more Basotho families to have the confidence that, when difficult moments come, they have put something in place for the people they love.”
The launch of EcoSure Family Cover reinforces SEFS’s commitment to using technology, innovation and the reach of the wider Econet ecosystem to broaden participation in formal financial services and build greater financial resilience among Basotho households.
